Orestiada is a dynamic new city in Northern Evros, Thrace in Hellas (Greece).

Orestiada also known as Nea (New) Orestiada, Greek: Ορεστιάδα, (Νέα Ορεστιάς), is the north-easternmost, northernmost and newest[ city of Greece and the second largest town of the Evros regional unit of Thrace, a historically Hellenic (Greek) geographical region dating back thousands of years.

New Orestiada was founded by displaced Greek nationals after the Treaty of Lausanne, in which river Evros became the new border of Hellas (Greece). It has a population of about 20,000.

Home to a variety of cultural, historical and traditional groups the city underlines the preservation of Hellenic and Thracean culture. It is also home to its world renowned Cultural and Historical museum, near the center of town.

Orestiada hosts the annual Arda’s festival in Kastanies, Evros about 17 kms north of the city. This “youth meeting point” concert and activities festival has been organized by the city since 1995 and it lasts for days! (There is transportation available to and from most cities in the region)

Water theme parks, banquet halls, numerous hotels, unique gourmet restaurants, special snack and coffee places, bakeries, local food restaurants, retail shops with an abundance of services: professional services, clothing, equipment, mechanics, specialty stores and a weekly local product “open air market” (Laiki agora) are guaranteed to cater to everyone’s dining and purchase preferences.

Orestiada is also home to Democritos University of Thrace’s αgricultural and forestry schools. This University is one of the oldest and largest higher education institutions in the country.

The city has a unique architectural arrangement which makes it really easy to navigate through its avenues and streets! Coupled with its youthful population like its students, servicemen and newly arrived residents, it projects an optimism and a zest for life, rarely found in the European Union!

Its proximity to key destinations like Didymoteicho, Soufli, Thessaloniki, Alexandroupolis, Sofia, Bucharest, Nis and Belgrade, Croatia and the Greek Byzantine “Hagia Sofia” in the city of Constantinopolis makes Nea Orestiada the ideal starting point for a greater “Aimos” peninsula-Southeastern Europe exploration!
